History
The Keystone Health Information Exchange™ (KeyHIE) formed in April of 2005 when Geisinger Health System invited fifty-three hospitals from central and northeastern Pennsylvania to participate in a survey and one-day conference to discuss the benefits of sharing healthcare information. More than twenty healthcare organizations were involved in those activities, and seven have continued with further meetings to develop an organization to govern the collaborative.
Currently, the Exchange is conducting a pilot information sharing project among Geisinger and two other community hospitals. In addition, it is developing its governance plan and a sustainable business plan.
